Event Date
Tuesday, March 10, 2026 - 06:30 pmThe 2026 Winter Adventure Series concludes Tuesday, March 10, at 6:30 p.m., with a presentation by Marci Richardson, “From Keel to Loom in Scotland and its Northern Isles.”
The series is a collaboration between Come Boating, Belfast’s Community Boating Organization and the Belfast Free Library
World traveler and knitting expert Marci Richardson brings a presentation that weaves together textiles, traditions, and the enduring spirit of the sea. Discover how the sinking of the Spanish Armada connects to the creation of iconic maritime garments such as the Fair Isle sweater, the Gansey (or Guernsey).
Learn about the fishing communities that keep these traditions alive and their use of sixerns—a larger version of the yoal, and similar to our own Cornish pilot gigs.
The program will be offered in person in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library with a Zoom option. To register for the Zoom link to this program please go to belfastlibrary.org/events/ and find the listing.
