ROCKLAND — ‘Blossom by Blossom’ artwork by Joyanna Margo Bernardo will be on display, Friday, May 3, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at The Art Loft, in Rockland.

This show is from a selection of works of Joyanna Margo Bernardo’s five-year healing journey with mixed media negative space painting.

Her process is a practice in release and definition. Her abstract floral paintings begin with a burst of color, words of a song, and bits of paper. From layers of abstraction, she discerns flowers and reveals them by defining the lines around each blossom and painting in the negative space around them.

Margo’s method of intuitive painting seeks to work freely to create endlessly wild and varied designs as she sees on a walk through a meadow, garden or greenhouse.

Joyanna Margo, an artist from Rockport, began painting abstract florals as a way to brighten her environment while stuck inside during hot Florida summers. She enjoys creating intuitive abstract floral paintings using acrylic and mixed media. Having taken a few art classes in high school and college, Margo is primarily self-taught.

As resident artist for the month of May, Margo will be teaching several member classes as well as workshops.

The Art Loft (a nonprofit community art center) is located inside the lobby of the Thorndike Building at 385 Main Street, Suite 9, in Rockland.
