Sex offender arrested by Rockland Police again for not registering with the state
ROCKLAND - An Arkansas man who is now residing in Thomaston remains in custody at the Two Bridges Jail, charged with failing to comply with the state’s sex offender registry law for the third time, aggravated forgery and operating a vehicle without a license.
Jonathan Daugherty, 24, made his initial appearance Oct. 2 in Knox County Court before Judge John Martin. His bail was set at $5,000 cash, with no third party bail allowed. The prosecution had requested the bail amount remain at $20,000 which was set by the bail commissioner.
According to Rockland Police, they learned that Daugherty, who was a convicted sex offender in Arkansas, was now living in the area and arrested him late last year for failing to register as a sex offender in Maine.
On July 14, Daugherty was stopped by Thomaston Police for speeding on his motorcycle and signed a summons for operating without a license using a false name, according to the court affidavit.
Rockland Police later determined following an investigation, that the name of the man involved with the incident in Thomaston also matched the information of the person who was injured in a motorcycle crash on Aug. 1 on Park Street in Rockland.
After the accident, Daugherty provided the same false name and date of birth to officers before being transported to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital with possible life-threatening injuries. He was the operator of the motorcycle which slammed into the rear of a vehicle and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to police.
Rockland Police, with the assistance of Thomaston Police, arrested Daugherty on Sept. 30.
If he posts bail, he will be on house arrest and only can leave the residence for medical and legal appointments and employment.
Daugherty is scheduled to appear again in Knox County Court on Nov. 13.
