Jon Byrer exhibits 'poured paintings' at Rockport Public Library
Midcoast artist Jon Byrer will be exhibiting a collection of his unique “poured paintings” at the Rockport Public Library from May 7 through June 29. Entitled “Envisioning a Moment,” the show aims to capture the splendor of Maine’s landscapes through Byrer’s innovative and abstract painting style.
Byrer does not use traditional tools like brushes or easels. Rather, he lays his canvas flat and pours puddles of paint here and there, "from which strategic and serendipitous scenery unfolds," said a Library news release.
“There is no way to re-work or correct what is poured onto the canvas,” says Byer, in the news release. “The mixing and pouring becomes a conversation with the paint. The marbled colors are frozen in place when dried, but they maintain a swirling sense of movement.”
Jon Byrer graduated from Maine College of Art with a degree in Fine Arts and Photography. He creates fine art paintings, experimental photography, watercolor illustrations, ink drawings, collages, and plays and records music with multiple instruments. One of his goals is to make his work accessible to everyone, which is why he has shown his art in numerous libraries throughout Maine, according to the news release.
