PORT CLYDE — Joan Derbyshire Tunis, 92, artist and long-time resident of Horse Point Road in Port Clyde, passed away on the morning of Aug. 17, 2013, after a brief illness.

Joan had traced her Port Clyde days back to the 1920s, when N.C. Wyeth built his famous Eight Bells on Horse Point Road, and she remembered N.C. and Andrew Wyeth from those early days.

A native of Utica, N.Y., Joan had been a resident and visitor to Port Clyde since her childhood. She was a quality painter, frequently incorporating the Maine landscape she loved in her increasingly abstract style.

She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Maggie Robles of Santa Barbara, Calif., and numerous friends on the St. George peninsula.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services, but friends and relatives are encouraged to have a nice dinner and reminisce.
