BELFAST — Jerry Hughes Gordley passed away peacefully on July 27, 2019.

Jerry was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on May 13, 1930 to Frances (Hughes) and Harvey Gordley.

The Gordley family moved to Brookville, Ohio where Jerry spent most of his childhood. Jerry attended Brookville High School and married his high school sweetheart Jeanne (Bader) Gordley. They proudly raised three children, Tim, Scott and Beth.

Jerry attended the University of Dayton and worked as a mechanical engineer at General Motors. He later studied insurance and worked for a small agency in Lewisburg, Ohio. He went on to purchase the agency, renaming it Gordley Insurance Agency. He owned and managed the agency for nearly 30 years. Jerry then worked for Baldwin and Whitney Insurance in Dayton and volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital upon retiring.

Jerry was a Master Mason of the Brookville Masonic Lodge, a 32nd Mason of the Dayton Scottish Rite and a 60-year member of the Antioch Shrine. He was on the board of directors for Brookville Building and Savings Association and was a Deacon at Brookville United Methodist Church. Jerry was an accomplished banjo player and a natural entertainer with a great sense of humor.

Later in life Jerry moved to the coastal town of Belfast, Maine to be close to his family.  He was a talented carpenter and loved spending afternoons in his wood shop listening to jazz and enjoying the birds and wildlife.

Those left to cherish his memory are: sons, Tim Gordley and Scott Gordley; daughter, Beth Anne Gordley-Smith; son-in-law, Dr. Terrance Smith; grandchildren, Ava and Lucien Gordley-Smith, Tamara Aquino, Evan Harder; and great-grandchildren, Sunny and Scout Harder.
