ROCKLAND — The Rockland Breakwater is approximately one mile long, as most of its regular walkers know, and it is not easy footing – you have to watch the cracks and grooves between the uneven granite slabs, even as the beauty of the water captures your attention.

So, when a stray picnic table appearer about halfway out to the end, it was a surprise, to say the least. The table is of classic design, meaning long, heavy and cumbersome to move.

To haul it out that far would have required determination, endurance, pure brawn, and likely good spirits. A team of lumberjacks.

“In the 50 years I’ve been walking the Breakwater, this is a first!,” said Renee Heal. “Would love to know how it got out there (and how it will be removed).”
