Investigators determine Stockton Springs house fire incendiary in origin
On Sunday, June 14, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Stockton Springs Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 23 Cross Lane in Stockton Springs that destroyed a home, according to a news release of the Maine Dept. of Public Safety.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews extinguished the fire and requested assistance from the Maine Office of State Fire Marshal to investigate the cause and origin.
Investigators determined the fire to be incendiary in nature. An incendiary fire is one, "that is intentionally ignited in an area or under circumstances where and when there should not be a fire," according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
There was no electricity connected to the structure at the time of the fire. The home was destroyed by the fire. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 207-624-7076.
