Gloria Louise Young, obituary
ROCKLAND — Gloria Louise Young, 95, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, at the Sussman House in Rockport, surrounded by her family.
She was born on August 30, 1930, in Rockland, the daughter of Perley Axtell and Leola Rowling Axtell. She grew up in Rockland and graduated from RDHS, class of 1948. On July 29, 1950, she married Linwood Young at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Rockland. Gloria was a lifelong member of St. Peter's and held many positions in the church over the years, including serving as President of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW).
Her early work life included employment at F.W. Woolworths and Van Balan’s. After her children were grown, she went to work in the production plant for the Courier-Gazette, where she dedicated 38 years of service until the plant's closure in 2011, resulting in her retirement at the age of 80. She made many lifelong friends during her time there.
Gloria loved entertaining numerous friends and relatives at the cottage built by her husband, Linwood, in St. George. She also enjoyed going out to eat, especially at the Rockport Diner, playing cards, and cooking family dinners at her home on Sundays. Additionally, she cherished traveling with her husband to visit her son and daughter-in-law at their camp in Parkman.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Linwood; her sister, Marlene Tolman; and her brother, Harold Artell.
She is survived by her daughter, Heather Ross and her husband Frank of Owls Head; her son, Linwood, and his wife Karen of Rockport; and her grandchildren, Angelica Ross, Lindsey Young, and Joshua Young.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service which will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 10 a.m., at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 11 White Street, Rockland.
