Faye L. Harvey, obituary

Mon, 09/20/2021 - 12:45pm

Faye Louise (Elwell) Harvey, 75, of Union went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 13, 2021.

Faye was born to Kathleen Pearl (Pease) Elwell and Howard Charles Elwell in Belfast, Maine on September 1, 1946.

Faye grew up in Saturday Cove, Northport with her two brothers, Calvin and Walter. She often spoke of the wonderful adventures she had there.

She attended Belfast area high school where she graduated in 1964. She also completed one year at Glen Cove Bible college in 1976.

In January of 1965, Faye joined the Navy, in August of 1965 she left with an honorable discharge. Though for a short time, she was very proud to have served her country.

In 1967 Faye met her beloved husband, Merwin, through a mutual friend. In 1968 they married. In May of 1971, they moved into their 1800s farmhouse, where they resided for the last 50 years. They took pride in their gardens and loved to share the fruits of their labor. Faye also adored her chickens, it made her completely content to sit outside and just watch them peck for hours.

Faye had three sons who she loved dearly, James, Kerry, and Yancey. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nothing made Faye happier than to gift each family member with a homemade quilt. She spent countless hours in her sewing room working on these labors of love.

In 1996 Faye became determined to win a blue ribbon for her blueberry pie. She made countless pies just to practice the technique. Finally, in 2000 she won her first blue ribbon. From then on she was passionate about winning those blues. She attended multiple fairs throughout the state every year to accumulate as many ribbons as possible. Multiple years she competed for the state title and won.

Faye was loved by everyone who had the privilege to know her. A true servant, friend, and admirable woman. So much could be said of this woman of God, there are simply not enough words to express the love she radiated.

Faye is predeceased by her parents, Kathleen and Howard. And her two brothers, Calvin and Walter.

She is survived by her husband, Merwin; her three sons, James Harvey of Camden, and wife Wendy, Kerry Harvey of Appleton, and wife Carla, and Yancey Harvey of Union. She leaves behind her 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives such as her cousins, brother/sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and others who loved her deeply.

Faye's memorial will be held on Monday, September 27, at 1 p.m., at South Hope Community Church where she had been a faithful servant for the past 40 years. Friends and family are invited to join us for a reception afterward downstairs at the church.

Arrangments are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.ripostafh.com.
