BELFAST — Elizabeth “Betty” Sanborn, 89, died on January 19 with her family by her side in the Hospice room at WCGH.

She was born on May 25, 1929 in North Searsport, the daughter of Freeman Owen Marden and Nellie Carter Marden.

Betty attended school in North Searsport until seventh grade when her family moved to Belfast. She graduated from Crosby High School, class of 1947.

She married Richard "Brownie" Sanborn, son of Norman and Hazel Sanborn on August 31, 1951. They enjoyed nearly 65 years of wonderful marriage together.

Betty enjoyed talking about her days of working at the telephone office in Belfast, the local radio station located on School Street and especially her time spent working at FmHA. She retired early to take care of her mother, Nellie Marden, who died in 1990.

She cherished most of all her time spent with Brownie at their camp on Swan Lake swimming, fishing, water skiing and just sitting on the beach.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, her nephew Richard Marden, and her devoted brother Wilbur "Bump" Marden.

She is survived by her husband, Brownie, nephews Peter and wife Terry, and their children Kendall, Jamie, and Angela; Mike and wife Mona, and their sons Jeremy, Tim and Joe; and niece Sherry and husband Scott, and their sons Shawn and Travis.

A special thanks to the health care workers who made it possible for Betty and Brownie to stay home together for the last five years. Thanks also to hospice and the nurses who took such good care of Betty the last two weeks at WCGH.

There will be a graveside service in the spring for family and close friends.

Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast.
