I am writing to ask you to support and vote for Valli Geiger for State Representative for Rockland and Owls Head. As many of you know, I am not running for a fourth term; I have asked Valli to run.  She and I share similar passions, concerns, and dedication to our community. 

Valli is just finishing six years on Rockland’s City Council.  As she says: “I’ve learned a lot these six years, listening to the needs, insights, challenges and questions to get to the best solutions for everyone. It is not easy but worth the time and the hard work to get everyone to the table to create solutions that last and work.” 

I trust Valli and have complete trust in her abilities to be a successful representative for the people of Rockland and Owls Head.

The past couple of years in the Legislature have been a tremendous effort to bring all to the table to look at what the issues are, what is in place, what needs to be in place, and how to design or strengthen policies, laws, studies, services and most of all community and regional involvement. 

As Valli says: “We are an amazing, resilient and independent people here in Maine.”

There is much more that needs to happen.  As many of you know, legislation we worked on throughout this past 2 year session was not able to be voted on because of the dismissal of the Legislature due to the virus in March.  Legislation on environmental issues, criminal justice reform, broadband expansion, wages and benefits increases, educational funding, business and human services legislation will be deleted.  All will have to be introduced to committees from step 1.  

It will be a lot of work, building relationships, listening to all sides, and collectively determining what is best for Maine people.  This is what Valli has done in her professional and her civic work.   As Ruth Bader Ginsberg said “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”   

It has been a privilege representing you, I hope you will give Valli the same support and share your thoughts and issues with her as you have with me.
