Eivind ‘Roy’ Moss, obituary
THOMASTON — Eivind Roy Moss Jr., 72, former owner and operator of Davis Funeral Home in Thomaston, died July 5, 2015, at his home in Thomaston. He was born Sept. 26, 1942, in Thomaston to Dr. Eivind R. Moss Sr. and Priscilla Oxton Moss.
Roy was a 1960 graduate of Thomaston High School and a 1961 graduate of New England Institute of Anatomy and Science for Funeral Directing in Boston, Mass. He was licensed in Maine as a funeral practitioner. He served in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman, stationed at St. Albans Naval Hospital on Long Island, N.Y.
Roy was a 50-year member and past master of Orient AF & AM Masonic Lodge in Thomaston, past thrice potent master of the Valley of Rockland, Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Consistory Valley of Portland, Kora Shrine, Knox County Shrine Club. He was past chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, former member of the Rockland Rotary Club, and a past member of the Federated Church in Thomaston.
He enjoyed boating with his wife and friends, traveling, riding his motor scooter, his dog, Wody, and spending winters in Lakeland, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents and by a brother, Edward J. Moss.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Robinson Moss of Thomaston; his sons, Stewart M. Moss of Gray, Ivar B. Moss of Gray and Randall A. Moss of Thomaston; his brother, U.S. Navy Capt. William Moss of Marlton, N.J.; his stepdaughter, Jackie Hill of Arizona; his grandchildren, Coty Demmons of Thomaston and Erica, Danielle and Travis, all of Arizona; his great-grandson, Colten of Arizona; as well as his nieces, nephews and cousins
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation at Thomaston Baptist Church on Saturday, July 11 from 1 to 2 p.m. The memorial service to celebrate Roy's life will be at 2 p.m., followed by a Masonic Service by the members of Orient Lodge of Masons. A reception will begin immediately after the service in the community room of the church. The Rev. Wayne Sawyer will officiate. Burial with Navy military honors will be held Thursday, July 16 at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
