Early morning rollover, low hanging wires prompt Spruce Head Road closure
SOUTH THOMASTON — Some electrical wires stretched along the ground, while others hung low from a primary utility pole in South Thomaston early Thursday morning following a single vehicle rollover on the Spruce Head Road.
South Thomaston Fire and EMS, and deputies from the Knox County Sheriff's Office were notified of the crash just after 1:10 a.m., Aug. 20, 2026. The vehicle had come to a stop, on its roof, in the bushes at a bend in Route 73 just south of the southern entrance to Watermans Beach Road.
One of the occupants of the vehicle, which was occupied by a 16 year old and a 14 year old, was transported to the hospital by South Thomaston Ambulance. Firefighters and a tow truck driver awaited the arrival of Central Maine Power to assess the wires and to address concerns regarding the stability of a still-standing utility pole.
Creek Hill hauled away the vehicle.
Firefighters turned the scene over to CMP at approximately 4:35 a.m. The road remained closed at this time.
First responders have been to this location, near 506 Watermans Beach Road, before, including a July 2023 rollover that turned into a vehicle fire.
