WARREN - The death of Micah Boland, an inmate at the Maine State Prison, has been classified as a homicide according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

In a press release Saturday, Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said detectives from the State Police Major Crimes Unit had been working with prison officials since Friday evening and believe another inmate at the prison Richard Stahursky is responsible for Boland’s death.

Boland, of Rockland, had served six years of a 22-year sentence for Gross Sexual Assault. Stahursky, of Warren, was serving multiple sentences for a number of convictions.

The autopsy determined Boland died from multiple stab wounds, McCausland said, adding that no other information is being released on the cause of death or where in the prison the stabbing took place.

Stahursky had a history of violence, including past stabbings, according to a story published in the Bangor Daily News in December 2012, when he was sentenced to an additional eight years for assaulting a prison guard.

McCausland said there is more work to be done on the case, but after consulting with the Attorney General’s Office, state police anticipate Stahursky will be charged with murder early next week.
