Dear Rockport citizens: A letter from the Rockport Budget Committee
Your town’s elected budget committee is trying something new this year. In the past we have always helped the Select Board produce the town budget during the late winter and early spring. What we discovered this past year is that this is not enough time to perform a thorough and thoughtful analysis of the proposed budget.
To try and improve this situation we decided to begin meeting right after the town elections when the new budget committee members were seated.
Our intent is to meet over the course of the summer and fall to see if there are ways to find a new approach to the budget. We do not know if we will be successful, but the Committee feels it is time for a different approach.
If you or your Rockport friends have ideas that might help us construct a more efficient budget, please send them to your Budget Committee at: BudgetCommittee@Rockportmaine.gov
Our next meeting is with the Select Board is September 8, 6 p.m., at the Parker Room on the Opera House. All are welcome.
We will stay connected with you over the summer, fall and winter and hopefully this innovative approach will yield a more efficient budget.
In the meantime, enjoy this lovely summer.
