Cole Anderson, FSU golf team eliminated from NCAA national tournament

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Camden native Cole Anderson has had a successful second season as part of the Florida State University men’s collegiate golf program this spring.

In fact, the Camden Hills Regional School alumnus was among five Seminoles competing in Scottsdale, Arizona from May 28 to June 1 in the NCAA National Championships at the Grayhawk Golf Club.

Anderson, a sophomore at Florida State University, and the Seminole men’s golf team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA men’s golf team championships.

The sixth-seeded Seminoles were eliminated from title contention by third-seeded Pepperdine during the national quarterfinals held the morning of Tuesday, June 1. 

Pepperdine defeated Florida State 3-1-1 with Anderson losing 2&1 to Joe Highsmith of Pepperdine. 

Through the opening four days of the tournament, the Seminoles as a team posted a total score of 1,136, good for 16-over-par. 

The Seminoles posted round scores of 281, 294, 274 and 287 through the first four days of the tournament. 

In individual play, running from May 28 to May 31, Cole Anderson tied for 65th place with score of 296 for 16-over-par. Anderson posted round scores of 74, 74, 75 and 73. 

This season, Anderson has found success on the golf course with the Seminoles. 

Anderson tied for 15th (215 total score), tied for 26th (215), tied for sixth (210) and tied for 43rd (225) in the four regular season tournaments he placed in. During a fifth tournament, Anderson did not finish. 

Recently, in the NCAA regional tournament, Anderson tied for 14th (212) as the top-ranked Florida State men’s golf team capped off a spectacular week of play with a combined score of 34-under (271-281-278) to win their first NCAA Regional in program history at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
