ROCKLAND — The Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) in Rockland is announcing an open call for submissions to its 2020 Biennial exhibition. Submissions will be accepted online through the CMCA website from January 1 through April 3, 2020.

The CMCA Biennial is an open juried competition for artists at all stages of their career who have a strong connection to the state of Maine. Art in all mediums is accepted for review. The CMCA 2020 Biennial is sponsored by The VIA Agency, of Portland.

"We are extremely grateful to The VIA Agency for their support of the 2020 Biennial," said CMCA Executive Director Suzette McAvoy, in a news release. "Their generous sponsorship makes it possible for us to waive submission fees for all entering artists and to engage two outstanding independent jurors, Kate McNamara and Nina Johnson-Milewski. Given the coincidence with Maine's Bicentennial, we anticipate a particularly large response to this statewide celebration of contemporary Maine art."

The CMCA Biennial is the longest running statewide juried exhibition in Maine, dating back to 1978, according to CMCA. Jurors for the 2020 edition are Nina Johnson-Milewski, owner, founder, and director of Nina Johnson Gallery, Miami, Florida, and Kate McNamara, an independent curator and educator based in Providence, Rhode Island, where she is Visiting Critic at the Rhode Island School of Design and Creative Director of My HomeCourt, a nonprofit organization working with contemporary artists to revitalize city parks.

Sponsored by The VIA Agency, the CMCA 2020 Biennial will open in November 2020 and run through February 2021.
