The Board of Directors of Stewardship Education Alliance (S.E.A.) has awarded four grants to schools in Camden and Rockport. These projects and programs will further SEA’s mission to increase community awareness of ways to be better stewards of the local watersheds, according to S.E.A., in a news release.

PeoplePlace co-operative pre-school in Camden will send two teachers to Herring Gut Learning Center to study project-based learning and ways to integrate stewardship of our watershed into their teaching.

Riley School in Rockport will buy equipment for students to monitor water quality in the stream and pond on school property, as well as the adjacent ocean cove.

John Dietter, 7th grade science teacher at Camden-Rockport Middle school, will purchase micro-filtration equipment and supplies so students can sample and study bacteria in water from the Megunticook Stream, and Camden and Rockport Harbors.

Students from Watershed School in Camden will share their work in climate studies with students at Children’s House Montessori School, and Camden-Rockport Middle School. Over the past three years, Watershed’s students and teachers, in partnership with officials from Camden, participated in the Global Covenant of Mayors and Cities to Reduce Carbon Emissions.

“They look forward to sharing their work with younger students,” said S.E.A.

“None of these efforts would be possible without funding from S.E.A.,” said the release. “The Board of Directors of S.E.A are grateful to the businesses and individual donors who support S.E.A. Thank you!”
