CAMDEN — The Camden Maine Lions Club held a dinner December 7 to celebrate the local winners of the annual Lions International Peace Poster contest. Among the attendees, was Teague Buchanan, who created the winning poster, which has been sent forward to the Maine state contest.

This year’s theme was “Journey of Peace.”

Lion Jerry Stone works with Camden Rockport Middle School 6th grade teacher Jim Morse each year on this event, which encourages students to creatively think about what peace means to them, according to Lions, in a news release.

Jim Morse encourages all of his students to enter the contest each year. Students can only use hand-drawn images that they create themselves. After the poster deadline, Lion Jerry Stone collects the posters and a committee of Lions judges them.

The winning poster goes next to district judging and could go on to judging at the regional, national, and international levels.

    This year, 27 students competed.

Siena Scordino and Pearl Hedstrom were runners up.

The Lions gave each winning student $100 and held a pizza party at the school for all the students who competed.
