Camden Hills girls varsity soccer players test undefeated season with three games this week
On Saturday, Sept. 26, the Camden Hills Windjammers bested the Mt. Blue Cougars on the road with a 2-0 win.
The Windjammers, who hold an undefeated record, kicked off in Farmington, sporting their white and red jerseys. The weather presented an obstacle, with very strong winds causing shots to be carried higher and faster.
It took no time at all for the Windjammers to find their rhythm, stringing together pass after pass. Farther into the opening half, this eventually resulted in sophomore captain No. 5, Liv Domareki, finding the back of the net.
After many attempts and close encounters with the goal, sophomore captain No. 10, Molly Williams, dribbled past the Cougars’ defensive line to secure another tally on the scoreboard for the Jammers.
The second half consisted of no scores, with play occurring almost entirely in the Cougars’ half. Many opportunities on goal appeared for Camden Hills, but strict defense, along with help from the weather conditions, resulted in a 2-0 win for the Windjammers.
The Windjammer JV team also had a strong game, ending with a score of 3-0. The three scorers for the team were sophomore No. 9, Rowan Witbeck, freshman No. 12, Ily Darling, and freshman No. 24, Devon Skrivanich. The team as a whole had a strong performance and is ready to take on the next game of the season.
The Jammers are facing a three-game week, with the first game against Oxford Hills on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Camden Hills. Make sure to come out and support your very own Windjammer Girls Soccer team.
