    CAMDEN — The Camden Public Library announces its Calendar of Events for September 2021.

    Month-Long Exhibits:

    September 1 through 30, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. September 11, 2001: The Day That Changed Us Poster Exhibit. An educational exhibition that presents the history of 9/11, its origins, and its ongoing implications through the personal stories of those who witnessed and survived the attacks. Told across 14 posters, this exhibition includes archival photographs and images of artifacts from the permanent collection of the 9/11 Memorial & MuseumAvailable to view in the library’s 2nd floor History Center from 1:00 to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, from September 1 through September 30.

    September 2 through 28, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PMCyan: The Blues of Art-Making, Cyanotypes by Deborah Loughlin. The art exhibit features cyanotype works by Waldoboro artist Deborah Loughlin. Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. Visitors will be swept up in whimsy by Loughlin’s imaginary maps, collage creatures, and boats made of memories. A portion of the proceeds from art sold during the show will benefit the Camden Public Library.

    Thursday, September 2, 7:45 PM to 9:45 PMMaine Outdoor Film Festival. The Town of Camden and the Camden Public Library welcome the Maine Outdoor Film Festival back to the Camden Amphitheatre for an exciting evening of outdoor adventure and conservation films. The event will be FREE and open to the public (donations accepted, with proceeds benefiting the Camden Public Library and Teens to Trails). Please bring your own lawn chairs or blankets for comfortable seating. List of the short films to be shown can be found at librarycamden.org.

Yoga in the Amphitheatre. Enjoy views of Camden Harbor while being guided through a sequence of yoga poses with certified instructor Denyse Robinson. All levels welcome. Explorations Read Aloud: The GoldfinchLocal thespian Joseph Coté will read aloud from Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Goldfinch. New readings become available to watch every Friday at 11:00 am in the “videos” section of the library’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page.

    FridaySeptember 3, 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Free Historic Walking Tour of Camden. Meet in the Camden Public Library’s Children’s Garden to enjoy a walking tour of several historic sites in downtown Camden. Ends at the Village Green. Free, donations accepted (to benefit the library). Appropriate for all ages. Moderate amount of walking required. 

    FridaySeptember 3, 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Online Chess Club. The chess club will be holding online matches every Friday. Members may also challenge other members at any time.     Thursday, September 9, 6:00 PM to 7:00 PMCoastal Mountains Land Trust Series: A Geologic Ramble Around Fernalds Neck. The fall/winter Coastal Mountains Land Trust series of nature talks with the Camden Public Library kicks off in September with an online presentation about one of midcoast Maine’s most interesting and beloved nature preserves: Fernalds Neck Preserve. The presentation will be given by D. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy MoJO’s blend of traditional big band, Latin, funk, and blues. Patriotic tunes will also be performed in honor of the 9/11 20th anniversary.

    Tuesday, September 14, 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Reflections on a Month in Greenland. World traveler and midcoast local Ron Smith narrates a slideshow about a recent trip he took to Greenland. He will discuss his experiences, the scenery, and the lifestyles he witnessed while visiting several communities on Greenland’s east and west coasts. Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Workshop with FEMA and Midcoast Medical Reserve Corps. Individuals, organizations, businesses, and community program managers are invited to attend this online workshop. Huge Book Sale Under the Tent. The used book event will run Thursday, September 30, through Sunday, October 3, and will be set up under a huge tent adjacent to the Blue Door Book Shed on Atlantic Ave. The book shed and event tent can be reached via the parking lot on the left just past the Camden Amphitheatre. Thousands of books, DVDs, CDs, and audio books will be on sale for great prices to benefit the library.

    Thursday, September 30, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AMPre-School Outdoor Story Time with Miss Amy. An in-person story time every Thursday and Friday, especially for pre-school-aged children.
