Calendar of Events at Camden Public Library for second half of May

    Month-Long Events:

    May 1 through 31, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. "Wild Animals, Wild Places: Art by Jim Arnosky." During the month of May, the Camden Public Library will host an exhibit of paintings in the Picker Room Gallery by well-known artist, author, and naturalist Jim Arnosky. Arnosky’s highly-regarded books for young readers inspire a love of nature. The artwork on exhibit will feature scenes of wildlife, habitat, and culture from places where he and his wife Deanna travel to research his books. Visit librarycamden.org for details.

    Monday, May 16, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday Morning Book Club. For the month of May, the group will be reading and discussing “Hamnet” by Maggie O’Farrell. The group (formerly known as the Tuesday Book Club) will now be meeting in person in the Picker Room of the Camden Public Library on 3rd Mondays at 10:00 am.     Monday, May 16, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Walsh History Center Hour on Zoom. Do you have a question about the history of Camden, your ancestors that may have lived in the area, or the house you live in now?     Tuesday, May 17, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Camden Philosophical Society. This lively group meets in person in the Picker Room of the Camden Public Library to discuss a variety of philosophical topics and readings.     Tuesday, May 17, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Author Talk with Margie Patlak: "More than Meets the Eye." The Camden Public Library welcomes award-winning science writer and memoirist Margie Patlak for a presentation about her book "More than Meets the Eye: Exploring Nature and Loss on the Coast of Maine."     Friday, May 20, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Explorations Read-Aloud: "The Bell Jar." Local thespian Joseph Coté will read aloud from Sylvia Plath's American Classic, "The Bell Jar," a realistic and emotional novel about a woman battling mental illness and societal pressure. New readings become available to watch every Friday at 11:00 am in the “videos” section of the Camden Public Library’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page.

    Friday, May 20, 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday Film Club: Far East Deep South. The Camden Public Library's film club salutes Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage by watching "Far East Deep South," a documentary which explores the seldom-told history of Chinese immigrants living in the American South during the late 1800s to mid-1900s. On 2nd and 4th Monday mornings, a representative from the Career Center will be available at the Camden Public Library to assist members of the public with help writing resumes, learning about job search resources, and more.
