Bradley C. Putnam, obituary
TOGUS — Bradley C. Putnam, 77, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Togus VA Hospital with his wife of 57 years and his children by his side.
He was born on May 15, 1948, in Waterville, Maine, to Neil and Addie (Austin) Putnam and grew up in the family’s brick house in Monroe. Brad graduated from Mt. View High School in 1966 and went on to attend EMVTI in Bangor, earning a degree in automotive repair. Shortly after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971.
Brad dedicated 42 years of service to the Maine Department of Transportation and continued working after retirement with Kleinfelder.
On July 27, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Coleen Smith. Together they made their home in Brooks, where they raised their two children, Cari-Anne and Bradley II. Brad was active in sports, playing golf, volleyball, softball, and floor hockey well into his 50s and early 60s. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors, especially camping, canoeing, and kayaking with his family.
Affectionately known as a “baby and dog whisperer,” Brad had a special way with little ones and animals. His grandsons and great-grandsons often passed by others to go sit with “Gramps” on the couch, a testament to his gentle nature. His beloved dogs, Annie and Emma, were never far from his side. His legacy of hard work, kindness, and devotion to family lives on through those who loved him.
Brad was predeceased by his parents, Neal and Addie; his brother, Bruce; and his sister Peg.
He is survived by his sister Annalee and her husband David; his wife, Coleen; daughter, Cari-Anne; son, Bradley and his wife Julie; grandchildren Adam, Austin and his wife Brooke, and Hart; great-grandchildren James, Ryan, and Elijah; as well as many extended family members.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
