'The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind' film and conversation with casting director, actor
The Strand Theatre will screen The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019) on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 5:30 p.m.
The film is based on the real-life story of William Kamkwamba, who as a boy of 14 built a windmill with parts from his father’s bicycle, to create a water flow system during a deadly drought in his village of Kasunga, Malawi against impossible odds. The film is directed by and costars Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, Children of Men, Doctor Strange).
Following the screening will be a conversation with Casting Director Alexa L. Fogel and actor Maxwell Simba Owino, who was cast and played the role of William after an extensive international search, while attending secondary school in Nairobi, Kenya, at the age of 15.
"Join us for this unique opportunity to find out what happens behind the scenes in film casting, and to hear a young actor reflect on his first film," said the Strand, in a news release.
Tickets are $10/General Admission; $8/ Seniors and Under 12; and $7/Strand Members. Tickets are available in advance on the Strand website or at the walk-up box office 30 minutes prior to showtime. For more information, visit www.RocklandStrand.com.
