Belfast Maskers presents “A Girl in School Uniform (Walks Into a Bar)”
BELFAST — Beginning April 18, 2026, Belfast Maskers presents “A Girl in School Uniform (Walks Into a Bar)” by Lulu Raczka, directed by Stephanie Natale Frus.
"Set in a lightly futuristic but eerily believable world, the play follows an unlikely pair of women navigating life inside a sticky-floored bar as blackouts ripple across the city," said Belfast Maskers, in a news release. "What unfolds is a high-energy psychological thriller that blends role-playing, shifting identities, and unexpected twists to explore connection, survival, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are."
Under the direction of Stephanie Natale Frus, the production leans into the play’s unpredictability, creating an immersive, fast-paced
experience that keeps audiences slightly off-balance.
“This play asks a lot from its audience,” says Natale-Frus. “It’s built on unreliable narration and layered themes, so we’re leaning into the playful, imaginative way Lulu communicates information.” She continues, “We want it to feel physical—engaging the nervous system, the heart, and the brain—so the audience is actively processing alongside the characters.”
"Through inventive staging and dynamic performances, the production blurs the line between perception and reality, asking whether identity is something we discover, perform, or create," said Maskers. "The production embraces the play’s use of blackouts as a central device.
“We’re treating the absence of light as its own presence,” said Natale-Frus. “In many ways, it becomes a third character—shaping the world of the play and the fear that exists within it.”
The production features Giz Coughlin, previously seen in the 2025 production of “Becky’s New Car” and the 2023 production of “A Doll’s House, Part 2,” alongside Rebekah Novak in her Belfast Maskers debut.
Performances will take place at the Basil Burwell Community Theater, 17 Court Street, in Belfast.
Tickets are $18–$20, with both Thursday performances priced at $10. Tickets can be purchased at http://belfastmaskers.com.
This production contains adult themes and language and is intended for mature audiences.
