Belfast Area High School Marine Institute students recently chartered a boat to take them out to a working kelp farm off Islesboro in preparation for the Marine Institute's own kelp production plans.

 

This new initiative will include a wet-lab on school grounds, cooperation and connection with Troy Howard Middle School and other area schools, and the development of an economic business model to eventually help subsidize costs.
