ROCKPORT — Ann M. Flagg, 56, died peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family and friends, following a lengthy and hard fought battle with cancer, Monday, March 6, 2023 at the Sussman Hospice House.

Born in Rockland, August 8, 1966, she was the daughter of Philip and Katherine Blastow Flagg. At the age of 5, Ann moved to Bangor with her family and attended school there, graduating from Bangor High School. As a young girl, Ann relished the summers spent at Sandy Shores in Warren with her grandparents, Hollis and Barbara Blastow.

Ann’s working career was spent in the food service industry. She was a lively, friendly, and sometimes feisty waitress and bar tender at several local restaurants. She was most known at the Navigator where she worked for over 17 years, and she loved the year she spent at Primo before her illness forced her to stop working.

Ann’s life changed for the better when she met Jim Campbell, a customer at one of her tables. Their colorful banter and teasing blossomed into a wonderful friendship and the rest as they say, is history. Together for over 35 years, Ann and Jim enjoyed many adventures. Most recently they found great joy in spending time on the ocean, jet skiing from Rockland to Monhegan and all stops in-between. Ann found freedom and peace when on the water. Together they took in the majestic beauty of the Maine coast and loved relaxing on secluded private beaches that large boats couldn’t reach. Going out to dinner was another favorite pastime.

Jim said you never had to wonder what Ann was thinking and he often referred to her as a firecracker. Her fierce nature made her an activist for those in need, especially animals. She had a special place in her heart for her two cats and her bunny, they were truly her “babies.”

Her beautiful smile, the sparkle in her eye and the love she shared with her family and large circle of friends will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her father, Philip Flagg and her mother-in-law, Yong Ye; Ann is survived by her husband, Jim Campbell of Rockport; her mother, Katherine ‘Kathy’ Flagg of Bangor; her sister, Susan Slick and her husband Clint of Bangor; two nephews Benjamin and Philip Slick; a niece, Olivia Slick; two uncles; three aunts and five cousins.

Ann’s family would like to extend a heartfelt ‘Thank You’ to the wonderful staff at both Pen Bay Medical Center and the Sussman House for their exceptional care in Ann’s last days. They were also very grateful for the care, support and friendship of the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cancer Care Center, who became like family, and kept in touch and visited her during her illness.

Ann’s family has chosen to remember her life privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sussman Hospice House, 40 anchor Drive, Rockport, ME 04856.
