ROCKPORT — After a penalty-filled four quarter affair, the Jan. 8 varsity ice hockey contest between Camden Hills and Brewer ended in a scoreless draw. 

“The best part of the night was the fact that we were playing as a team again and outworking our opponent,” said Camden Hills head coach John Magri. “That is our game.” 

The contest, played at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport, featured a combined 51 minutes of penalties issued to the two squads. 

“The politest way to report the biggest factor in this game is to say that the officials injected themselves into the final outcome of the game at a level that just isn’t productive,” lamented John Magri. “To say that this game was called ‘tight’ would be an understatement.”

Despite playing 80 percent of the contest down one or two players, the host Windjammers outpaced Brewer 21-12 in shots. 

“Camden Hills played a fast and tenacious game resulting in killing all of the penalties and creating shorthanded offensive opportunities,” noted Magri. “I was pleased with the effort.” 

All three forward lines were clicking and dominating throughout the game, according to Magri. 

“The line of [Hayden] Thibeault, [Elias] Libby, and [Rory] Carlson really showed the tenacious speed we were looking for and we needed to see more of them in this game which will occur in our upcoming game against Waterville,” said Magri. “The line of [Noah] Quesnel, [Nick] Tausek, and [Jason] Greenleaf was a forechecking freight train that was constantly on the precipice of a goal but just couldn’t penetrate the Brewer goalie. [Levi] Guay, [Ben] Wells, and [Charlie] Griebel, along with Sophomore Cam Powell, provided a lion’s effort in killing 35 minutes worth of penalties along with creating a handful of offensive assaults while shorthanded.” 

Magri also applauded Quinn Brown, Andrew Orne, Jakob Johnson and Nolan Delehey for their defensive performance. 

“They were simply stand up and solid,” Magri said. 

In the goalie net for Camden Hills, Jackson Bernier recorded 12 saves. 

“Both goalies in both nets perform at a level that is top of the league so that contributed to the low score also,” said Magri. 

The next game for Camden Hills will be the final game of its four game home stretch as the Windjammers host Waterville/Winslow at the Midcoast Recreation Center on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 6:15 p.m.
