Rockport Fire Department to hold fundraising toll booth Friday
ROCKPORT — Rockport Fire Department, Inc., will be hosting its third annual "toll booth" fundraiser Friday, Aug. 12, to help raise money for some new extrication equipment and funds to award additional college scholarships to support high school students in the community.
Firefighters will be standing this Friday at the intersection of Routes 17 and 90, between 2 and 6 p.m. Drivers who stop at the traffic light will have an opportunity to voluntarily drop a donation in a firefighter's boot.
“We especially want to help the kids in the community,” said Rockport Fire Chief Jason Peasley.
Peasley added that the very generous support they received last year from the business community, general public and summer visitors made the 2015 “toll booth” a successful fundraising event. The firefighters hope to have their support again this year.
Sixteen Rockport firefighters are expected to volunteer, and they will all be easily identifiable in their fluorescent safety vests at the Route 17 and 90 intersection.
Donations can also be dropped off at the fire station, adjacent to the town office, or by mailing a check to the Rockport Fire Department, P.O. Box 142, Rockport, ME 04856. Please make checks out to the Rockport Fire Department, Inc.
