Teenagers treated for alcohol poisoning; police charge two Rockland adults

    ROCKLAND — Two Rockland residents are facing charges following an investigation by Rockland police of two girls being treated for alcohol poisoning from an incident that occurred February 29, according to a press release from Sgt. Don Finnegan.

    Brenda Shepard, 63, and Ryan Newbert, 19, have been charged with aggravated furnishing of alcohol to minors.   

    Newbert was also charged with aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs.

    Shepard was charged March 11 and Newbert was located and charged April 18.    

    The investigation began when police received a report from a citizen of males pulling an unconscious female into a car, and driving northbound on Main Street in Rockland. Officer William Smith located the vehicle on Camden Street and stopped it.   

    Officer Smith found two, 14-year-old girls unconscious in the vehicle. The girls were initially transported to Penobscot Bay Medical Center by Rockland EMS, placed on life support, and then flown to Maine Medical Center via Life Flight for treatment.  

    According to Finnegan, both of the girls were successfully treated and are doing well.

    This incident was investigated by Officer William Smith and Detective Joel Neal.
