LINCOLNVILLE — Edward St. Charles, 81, died peacefully on Monday, Dec. 15, 2015, at Glenridge Nursing Home in Augusta.

Born Jan. 4, 1934, in Salem, Mass., he was the son of Omer and Josephine St. Charles. He was a graduate of Salem Vocational High School in 1950. While in school Ed worked countless hours with his father at the Hawthorne Tanning Co.

After high school, Ed quickly began his profession as a carpenter while also serving in the U.S. Army as a radar operator stationed in Salem. As his talent grew he later became a master carpenter and foreman for Local 33 in Boston. He "ran work" in buildings and facilities throughout the city such as the Prudential Building, Faneuil Hall, Beth Israel Hospital and Fenway Park. Ed spent much of his free time fishing on his boat, Josephine, and often spoke of fond memories as the commandeer at the Danvers Port Yacht Club.

Ed married Mary St. Charles of Danvers, Mass., at Saint Annunciation Church on Feb. 22, 1967. He and Mary had a son in 1971. Ed and Mary bought a burnt-out farmhouse in South Thomaston in 1975. He spent the next 15 summers there, putting his master carpentry skills to work restoring the old farmhouse. Ed completed this masterpiece in 1989, promptly retired and moved his family there. There he lived out his dream of becoming a gentleman farmer while Mary tended to the flower gardens and made the home a showcase. Ed also assisted Mary at the St. Bernard's soup kitchen from time to time.

He will not be soon forgotten.

Ed is survived by his son, Edward J. St. Charles and his wife, Bevin; and his granddaughter, Madalin St. Charles, all of Lincolnville; his sister, Dorothy Eon and her husband, Roger, of Peabody, Mass.; as well several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 21 at St Bernard's Catholic Church in Rockland.
