Ralph Robinson, obituary
TENANTS HARBOR — Ralph H. Robinson, 85, of Tenants Harbor, passed away Aug. 2, 2015, in the comfort of the Sussman House, with his loving family by his side. Ralph was born June 5, 1930, in Rockland, to Charles Henry and Myrtle (Davis) Robinson.
Ralph graduated from Rockland High School in 1950. He immediately joined the Army National Guard and then the U.S. Army. He served for four years during the Korean War.
After his service, Ralph lived in Connecticut while working for Pratt and Whitney. He met Helen Myrick while on a trip back to Maine and the couple married May 8, 1954. The couple moved back to Maine and he worked as a printer at Bonnar-Vawter for 25 years. He became a prison guard and then the manager of the upholstery shop at the Maine State Prison until his retirement.
Ralph was a Master Mason for more than 50 years, a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 50 years, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Wiley's Corner Baptist Church. He enjoyed dancing, playing the spoons, live music and mackerel fishing. He was very social and knew someone everywhere he went.
Ralph loved spending time with his nieces, nephews and his grandchildren. He taught many children how to drive, fish, clam and garden over the years. Ralph loved a good joke or a trick. He was always trying to fool someone into believing an outlandish story. And he would often pretend it was his birthday just to get a hug from a pretty waitress or store clerk. Ralph enjoyed people and loved helping them in any way he could. He'd pick up garbage for a neighbor, move furniture with his truck, share the vegetables that he'd grown and was often shuttling his grandchildren around to various events.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Condon Robinson, Wilbur Robinson, Joseph Robinson, Charles Robinson, Malcolm Robinson and George Robinson; and his sister, Celia Richards. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Robinson of St. George; his daughter, Ruth Thompson of Warren; his son, Elliott Robinson and his wife, Aisha, of Swampscott, Mass.; his sister, Gwen Ranquist of Thomaston; his brother, Edgar Robinson and his wife, Cynthia, of Rockland; his grandchildren, Dora Thompson, Christian Burton, Sadie Thompson and Amelia Robinson; his son-in-law, Justin Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Robinson family expresses their grateful appreciation for the loving care provided by all the staff at the Sussman House and all the help from the crew on the St. George Ambulance Association.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. at Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro. Interment will take place Sunday, Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Birch Harbor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ralph's name to the St. George Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 249, Tenants Harbor, ME 04860.
