CAMDEN — Spring is here and with a deep snow pack in place and nightly grooming of trails, spring skiing just couldn't be better. In addition to skiing and riding, Camden Snow Bowl invites everyone to participate in four special events this weekend.

On Saturday, the 4th Annual Cardboard Box Derby, a fun event for all ages, opens for inspection from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with the race beginning at 1:30 p.m. Entry fee is $25 per box.

Prizes will be awarded for most people in a box, most creative, most spirit, best costume, and fastest.

There are a few rules including no sprayed substances on the boxes, no waxing the bottom, and of course, the wearing of a helmet. Complete rules and information may be found at camdensnowbowl.com.

On Sunday, the always popular Uphill Downhill Race begins at 10 a.m. There is a $10 entry fee.

This is a great challenge to spirit and strength as skiers race to the top “the hard way” and ski back down. Families and groups are encouraged to participate. This event is open to everyone, even those not interested in racing or winning prizes, though there will be awards in many categories.

The event is designed to encourage people to climb to the top of the Snow Bowl to see the great views of Penobscot Bay from the top of Ragged Mountain.

At 1 p.m., the Terrain Park hosts its last event of the season, a Three Jump Line Contest. Each entrant has two runs of the three jumps, with a judge posted at each jump. There is a $10 entry fee with registration open from 10 a.m. to noon. Age groups are 11 and under, as well as 12 and up.

The entire course is visible from the foot of the mountain for those who prefer to watch in between ski runs.

Additionally, due to the many requests from patrons of the Snow Bowl, a Telemark Clinic will be held Sunday, March 22 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Groups will form as beginners or intermediate level skiers. There is a $15 fee for the clinic but those wearing Telemark boots may purchase an all day lift ticket for $20.

In addition to this weekend, the Camden Snow Bowl will be open Friday, March 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Any change in hours due to weather or conditions will be posted on the website and Facebook page. There is a special lift ticket price for college students on Spring Break.
