Helen Harvey, obituary
OWLS HEAD — Helen W. Harvey, 93, went home to be with her Lord on April 27, 2014, at the Knox Center in Rockland.
Born in Camden on Jan. 30, 1921, she was the daughter of Walter L. and Lona Reynolds Whitmore.
After moving to Rockland at the age of 12, she attended local schools and was a 1938 graduate of Rockland High School.
On July 27, 1940, she married her high school sweetheart, Maurice R. Harvey. The couple made their home at Ash Point, where they lived all their married lives.
Not only was Helen a devoted homemaker, but she loved having her family gathered around whenever they could. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, patchwork and braiding rugs.
After her husband retired, she joined him in the Owls Head Buoy Business, where they made, painted and sold bouys and novelties to gift shops.
She particularly enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motor home. They crossed the country twice and spent much time in Canada and Newfoundland.
Helen was an active member of the former Ash Point Church, and after the closing of that church, transferred her membership to the Owls Head Baptist Church. For many years she was active in that church as a youth group leader, Sunday school teacher and choir member.
Other than her parents, Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband in 2001; her son, Robert A. Harvey in 2011; and a sister, Mary Surette. She is survived by two daughters, Lona H. Siebert and her husband, Harvey, of Owls Head, and Cheryl L. Flowers and her husband, Jeffrey, of Dover, N.H.; a sister, Barbara Skillings of Waterboro; a brother, Herman Thayer and his wife, Bessie, of Owls Head; six grandchildren, Traci Hartwick and her husband, Christopher, of Manchester, N.H., Kimberly Peabody and her husband, Gary, of Searsmont, Christopher Hall of Dover, N.H., Reily Harvey and her companion, Scott Erskin, of Owls Head, Jacob Harvey and his wife, Molly, of South Thomaston, and Nathan Ames of Owls Head; nine great-grandchildren, Josh, Alyson, Megan, Taylor, Dustin, Dylan, Jenna, Jordan and Kellie; two great great-grandchildren, Lucy and Mazie Helen; as well as several nieces; nephews; and extended family.
A celebration of Helen's life will be held Thursday, May 1 at 11 a.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. The Revs. Harold Carpenter and Stephen White will officiate. Private interment will follow.
