June Kenniston, obituary
WALDOBORO — June Kenniston, 78, born June 15, 1935, in Waldoboro, died peacefully Feb. 19, 2014. She was a native and lifelong resident of Maine, growing up in Warren, the second born of five children.
For many years June worked as a certified nurse’s assistant in home health and hospice where her patients adored her. She loved sewing, knitting and crocheting, spending many hours making handmade gifts. She also enjoyed reading, crosswords, Scrabble and her laptop, which kept her connected to her family and friends. She loved the ocean as well as a good storm and would often go on drives during thunderstorms. There were days spent picking berries on Clary Hill, walking in the rain, bird watching, and admiring the beautiful autumn colors and evenings watching a sunset and gazing at the stars and moon. She said what she loved most of all was being the mother of five loving children. They were her life.
She was a loving, compassionate woman with a generous heart. She had a passion for God, nature and people. She spent her life caring for others and giving of herself to her family. She was loved by many.
June was a gifted poet and won third place in a national poetry contest. She published her own poetry book, Word Songs, in 2011. It is a collection of her life's work and will forever remind us of the depth she loved and the beauty of her soul.
June was a very spiritual woman. Her Heavenly Father dwelt in her heart her whole life, healing her, revealing truths to her and guiding her through many rough times. This provided her comfort and courage.
She leaves behind five children, including her daughters, Lorelie Davis of Waldoboro, Lynette Farnum and her husband, Stephen, of Waldoboro, Leanne Caires and her husband, Michael, of Rockland, and Lasca Black and her fiance, Wayne Goodrich, of Augusta; and her son, Lyndon Harrington of Friendship; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren with four on the way; three great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen Sharp and her husband, Joel, of Arizona, and Gloria Bagley and her husband, Charles, of Waldoboro; her sister-in-law, Joanne Kenniston of Warren, and her former husband, Russell Harrington of Friendship; and her cat, Freckles of Waldoboro. She was predeceased by her parents, Evelyn Erickson and Donald Kenniston of Warren; two siblings, Frederick Kenniston of Scarborough and David Kenniston of Warren; and her first husband, Philip Davis of Cushing.
There will be a public graveside service to be announced in the spring.
Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro is caring for the family.
