Opening reception for artists Davis, Facq during Rockland Art Walk
ROCKLAND — Inner Works Healing Arts Center, on Cedar Street, is holding a summer art exhibit featuring sculpture by Barbara Davis and blown glass by Alex Facq. The opening reception will be held on Friday, June 6, from 5 - 8 p.m., as part of Rockland’s First Friday Art Walk.
Davis’s Metamorphosis is an installation of sculptures made from flax and other fibers. Davis’s work explores the life-death and rebirth cycle ever present in nature. The objects feel familiar – something almost known, reminiscent of a cocoon or chrysalis. While some seem to have hatched and in the process of decay others seem to be about to hatch – to spring forth with new life.
While Davis has always been interested in internal processes and the discrepancy between the seen and unseen, this new work explores the question of transformation. Davis sees the work as reflecting the current destruction of both nature and culture and the hope that this great transformation is the birth of a new, more sustainable world which supports the health and well being of the earth and all her life forms.
This is Facq’s first exhibition as a glass artist. Facq combines organic and utilitarian shapes as they explore the relationship between the human and more than human world. Their glass vessels often blend traditional techniques with organic forms, frequently borrowing shapes from plants and fungi.
The opening reception is free and open to the public.
Inner Works is located at 236 Cedar Street, Rockland, ME. Entrance is in the rear of the building. Other gallery hours are available by appointment. For more information, contact BarbaraDavisLCSW@gmail.com or visit www.AlexFacqGlass.com and BarbaraDavisStudio.com.
