Russell E. Sevon, obituary
THOMATON — Russell E. Sevon, 92, died peacefully, surrounded by his family at his home Oct. 13, 2013.
Born in Thomaston June 26, 1921, he was the son of Elmer and Virginia Mank Sevon.
Russell will be remembered as a man of excellence in his field as a top machinist. His hobbies were of equal importance to him as he loved woodworking and mechanics. His great joy was working down in his barn where he created many amazing things.
He was highly sought after for his expertise and he mentored many people. He had a long and fulfilling career, working in many different places from Rhode Island to Rockland. He earned many achievement awards over his career. He retired at age 65, spending the rest of his glorious days doing what he loved most, working “down the barn” and listening to Hawaiian music.
Russell was a kind and loving father and is survived by his three daughters, Sheila Sawyer of Camden, Linda Rubenstein of Lincolnville and Marilyn Sevon of Thomaston. He also leaves his brother, Arthur Sevon; and his wife, Edith of Thomaston; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Russell will be missed by all, and is remembered in the words of his great-grandson:
"You were a true man, blessed deeply with a sweet soul, and we will always remember the days of gold.
Bold in all the things you do, bringing us together, like that sticky Elmer's wood glue.
Your life's legacy holds true.
Through the calms, and through the storms, we've let go our bonds, our spirits torn.
So now we mourn until the day, we meet you again at Heaven's gates.
So now we let go of all the sorrow, living the best we can today, and hope and pray for a better tomorrow.
Like the blue jay, you've flown away, and we will see you in the coming days."
— All of our love, Jesse D. Petersdorf
In keeping with his wishes, Russell will be laid to rest privately at Village Cemetery in Thomaston.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home in Rockland. To share a memory or condolence with his family, visit his Book of Memories online at the funeral home.
