Monday, March 1 through Wednesday, March 28, All Day (Online). March Virtual Gallery: By the Waters of the Winds, Paintings by Maureen Egan. The Camden Public Library will host a month-long virtual art show featuring vibrant landscape paintings by midcoast artist Maureen Egan, which are based on two hiking trips she and her husband took in the Wind River Range of Wyoming. Policy and Politics in the Arctic: A Conversation with Senator Angus King. The Camden Conference and Camden Public Library will present Maine Senator Angus King for a conversation on the Arctic, the theme of this year’s Camden Conference. Maine’s first Independent United States Senator is co-chair of the Senate Arctic Caucus and member of both the Senate Armed Services Committee and Energy & Natural Resources Committee. Let’s Talk About Energy, Part 1: Energy in Your Midcoast Home. The free monthly series kicks off with an online panel presentation featuring local energy experts who will discuss what can be done within homes. Explorations Read Aloud: Travels With Charley in Search of America Local thespian Joseph Coté will read aloud selections from John Steinbeck’s book, which is an intimate look at one of America’s most beloved writers in the later years of his life. Written during a time of upheaval and racial tension in the South—which Steinbeck witnessed firsthand—Travels with Charley is a stunning evocation of America on the eve of a tumultuous decade. New readings become available to watch every Friday at 11:00 am in the “videos” section of the library’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page.

Thursday, March 11, 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. By the Waters of the Winds Film Screening and Art Event. Maureen Egan’s month-long virtual art exhibit on the Camden Public Library’s website will be accompanied by a Zoom program on March 11 featuring the screening of a film by Egan’s husband Tim Seymour. The film documents an eight-day hiking adventure in Wyoming that the couple took in 2019. The trip served as inspiration for the paintings featured in Egan’s art show. Egan and Seymour will also be discussing the creative process of filmmaking and art-making and will answer audience questions. Email jpierce@librarycamden.org to request a Zoom link to attend.

Friday, March 12, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Explorations Read Aloud: The Heather Blazing. Local thespian Joseph Coté will read will read aloud selections from Colm Tóibín’s The Heather Blazing. The story is about Eamon Redmond, a judge in Ireland’s high court, a completely legal creature who is just beginning to discover how painfully unconnected he is from other human beings. With effortless fluency, Colm Tóibín reconstructs the history of Eamon’s relationships—with his father, his first “girl,” his wife, and the children who barely know him—and he writes about Eamon’s affection for the Irish coast with such painterly skill that the land itself becomes a character. New readings become available to watch every Friday at 11:00 am in the “videos” section of the library’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page.

Tuesday, March 23, 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Learn About Job Corps Opportunities. Job Corps Outreach & Admissions Counselor Ross Chicoine will give an informational presentation about Job Corps, a free Career Technical Training program that is federally funded for 16-24 year-olds. In this online program, Chicoine will discuss career training areas including welding, carpentry, culinary arts, CNA, and many more. Students can also earn their HS diploma with Job Corps. Students stay on center, free of charge, while they work towards completion of their trade. Friday, March 26, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Explorations Read Aloud: Suite Française. Local thespian Joseph Coté will read aloud selections from Irène Némirovsky’s Suite Française. The book represents the beginning of a planned sequence of five novels by the French writer of Ukrainian-Jewish origin. In July 1942, Némirovsky was arrested as a Jew and murdered at Auschwitz, a victim of the Holocaust. The notebook containing her two novels was preserved by her daughters but not published in a single volume until 2004. New readings become available to watch every Friday at 11:00 am in the “videos” section of the library’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page.
