LINCOLNVILLE — The Busline League small school northern division boys basketball championship Wednesday, Jan. 29 left fans on the edges of their seats in the fourth quarter as the second-seeded Hope Hawks and top-seeded Lincolnville Lynx met on the hardwood in Lincolnville.

In the regular season, the visiting Hawks lost a pair of games to the host Lynx. The tables turned, however, as the Hawks soared to a narrow 48-47 victory in nail-biting fashion to advance to the small school championship.

Hope possessed quarterly advantages of 13-7, 28-19 and 41-34 en route to a 48-47 victory.

In the fourth quarter, Lincolnville gained a 47-46 advantage with over a minute to play.

With 23 seconds remaining, Lincoln Wight worked his way through the Lincolnville defense for a layup and pushed Hope to a 48-47 lead, and the win.

Scoring for Lincolnville were Hayden Davis (13 points), Avery Luft (eight), Thomas Leadbetter (eight), Mason Clark (seven), Preston Rossiter (five), Sage Burgess (four) and Kaden Wood (two).

Scoring for Hope were Wight (11 points), Micah Fagonde (10), Hollis Schwalm (nine), Nolan Ames (nine), Miles Spear (six) and Dominic Roberts (three).

With the win, Hope advances to the league’s small school division champion against either Woolwich or Nobleboro on Saturday, Feb. 1.
