BELFAST — Waterfall Arts’ is seeking chalk artists of all kinds to turn sidewalks and pavement into art during the third annual Chalk Walk (an All Ages Art Happening), led by Bridget Matros, Youth and Family Outreach Manager.

On Saturday, September 21, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Waterfall Arts will stage an art takeover of the Belfast Harbor Walk, with artists creating chalk drawings throughout Heritage Park in downtown Belfast. Artists interested in participating can reserve a 4’ x 4’ square on Waterfall Arts’ by registering on their website or by calling their office at 207-338-2222.

Participating in AAAH: Chalk Walk is a unique opportunity to make art, engage with the community, and feel like a rock star, according to Waterfall Arts, in a news release. Waterfall Arts will supply chalk, rags, knee pads, and drinking water to all artists. In addition, volunteers from Waterfall Arts’ youth programs will be on hand to assist artists with their needs.

Artists of all abilities are invited to sign up – professionals and novices are welcome to reserve a square of sidewalk or pavement. Please note, sidewalk/pavement squares are available on a first come, first served basis and artists must be registered in advance of the Chalk Walk itself.

Waterfall Arts will have plenty of chalk on hand for passersby to add their own designs to the community pathway. Stroll through Heritage Park to check out various large-scale works in progress and come back at the end of the day to see the finished pieces.

In the case of inclement weather, the drawing fun moves over to Waterfall Arts – tons of activities for all ages!

Led by Waterfall Arts Youth and Family Outreach Manager Bridget Matros, All Ages Art Happenings (AAAH) engage area youth and families throughout the year through community-building “art parties” with memorable, themed, multi-sensory art experiences for all ages.

Local business sponsors include: Bangor Savings Bank, The Green Store, Little River Veterinary Clinic, Sundog Solar, and CG Bikes. Additional support is provided by foundations such as the Onion Foundation and the Maine Arts Commission, as well as individual donors.

Launched in 2000, Waterfall Arts is a community arts center that offers resources to students, professionals, and arts enthusiasts of all ages. Opportunities include classes, exhibitions, art events, performances, open community studios (clay, print, and darkroom photography), public art projects, and more.
