Camden’s Meyer family selected for prestigious USTA New England award
WESTBOROUGH, MA — The United States Tennis Association New England branch is proud to announce it has selected the Meyer family, of Camden, as its 2018 Edwin Goodman Family of the Year.
The Meyer Family, along with four other award winners, will be recognized at a special luncheon at USTA New England’s Tennis Weekend on Nov. 17 at the Boston Marriott Newton, according to a news release.
“USTA New England is grateful to have so many tennis enthusiasts dedicated to growing and developing tennis. To be selected from a field of such worthy nominees is a true honor, and we look forward to celebrating these deserving winners and all they’ve done to give back to the sport,” said USTA New England President and CEO Peter Parrotta.
The Meyers, the release noted, are extremely dedicated to growing tennis in Maine, and no one is more passionate than Seth, who is the Director of Tennis at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport.
On top of his day-to-day duties, Meyer is a major advocate for youth tennis. He schedules local red, orange, green and yellow ball play opportunities and serves on a youth tennis task force to help create playing opportunities between all Maine facilities. His nine-year-old son, Will, is a passionate tennis player, and his wife, Erin, is an avid USTA League player.
In addition, Seth’s father Bruce works at MRC as a pro, and his mother Carolyn organizes an annual tournament to raise money to prevent homelessness.
The Edwin Goodman Family of the Year is awarded to the USTA New England family that as a group has contributed the most to tennis in New England.
All award winners will also be the New England nominee for their respective national award.
