Y runners still seeing turkey, pilgrim a day later

CAMDEN/ROCKPORT — Y run in the cold? We didn’t stick around to ask. Call it a natural counterbalance. As runners heated up, bystanders cooled down.

The November 23 annual post-Thanksgiving race, hosted by the Penobscot Bay YMCA, started at Limerock Street in Camden, wound through the pastures of the Belted Galloways, and stopped at the Rockport Y with promises of pancakes and bacon. By Wednesday, Nov. 21, 140 participants had registered.

At least the majority of those registrants showed up and proved their cold-weather hardiness.

By the midway point, some participants claimed to have warmed up, at least a little bit. Others groaned, yet smiled as the 8:30 - 9:30 morning sun reflected off of white snow.

(OK, actually the smiles were for the pilgrim standing next to me.)

No pilgrims ran the race, though a few turkeys did.
