Watershed School launches student newspaper
CAMDEN — Students at the independent Watershed School in Camden are publishing their own newspaper, and with the first issue under their belt and another one coming off the presses next week, the goal is to, “develop their skills and apply them to the real issues and challenges we face in the larger community,” according to the purpose statement.
The newspaper, which is edited by Thor Gabrielsen and Pearl Benjamin, and layout accomplished by Lyra Kalajian, features writers Maggie Vinci, Marina Delcordre, Morgan Macdougal, and Brady Hedstrom, as well as artist Caleb Edwards.
Through an interdisciplinary approach, Watershed School is focusing on media literacy for the 21st Century. The school is offering a media literacy class, taught by Ronni Arno Blaisdell, and a senior seminar that dovetails with the Camden Conference.
Scheduled for February, the 2020 Camden Conference theme is The Media Revolution: Changing the World.
With that academic curriculum, the school also launched its own newspaper, with faculty members Joe Kleinman and Blaisdell serving as advisors.
