BELFAST — The public is invited to participate in Waterfall Arts’ annual Open Call exhibition, Milestones, this spring. Milestones will be on view from April 3 through May 8. Work for this non-juried open call exhibition must be submitted to Waterfall Arts between March 24-27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The theme for this year’s Open Call exhibition is “milestones.” 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of Waterfall Arts and the 200th anniversary of the state of Maine. To commemorate these milestones, the 2020 Open Call is for work that references the past, the future, anniversaries of any sort, or significant milestones in one’s life/the world around us.

Last year, nearly 60 artists participated in this diverse show. The annual Open Call show is an opportunity for everyone to participate in the creative dialogue springing from Waterfall Arts’ 2020 exhibitions.

Those interested in submitting work (one piece per artist) should bring it to Waterfall Arts between Tuesday, March 24 and Friday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 27 is the deadline for dropping off work. All mediums are accepted, in 2D or 3D. Work must be properly framed for hanging or placement in a gallery setting and may be for sale. This is a non-juried exhibition. All artists are asked to fill out this form on Waterfall Arts’ website prior to drop off.

This year, Waterfall Arts will be putting together concurrent exhibit alongside the open call show, featuring photos and artwork related to the former Governor Anderson Elementary School where the community art center is housed. Were you a student here? Did a relative or friend work here? What was your relationship to the building before it became home to Waterfall Arts? Anyone with photos, artwork, or ephemera related to the Governor Anderson Elementary School who might like to participate is invited to stop by during office hours or contact Waterfall Arts at info@waterfallarts.org or by phone at 207-338-2222.

Milestones will open on Friday, April 3, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m.

Waterfall Arts is located at 256 High Street in downtown Belfast. For more information, visit https://waterfallarts. org/exhibitions/milestones- 2020-open-call/ or call (207)-338-2222. Exhibitions at Waterfall Arts are made possible by the Onion Foundation, Morton Kelly Charitable Trust, and the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Launched in 2000, Waterfall Arts is a community arts center that offers resources to students, professionals, and arts enthusiasts of all ages. Opportunities include classes, exhibitions, art events, performances, open community studios (clay, print, and darkroom photography), public art projects, and more.
