Waldo Theatre announces cast for community theatre production of The Vagina Monologues
WALDOBORO — The Waldo Theatre has announced the cast for its upcoming community theatre production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, to be staged at The Waldo on the evenings of March 15, 21 and 22, 2025, with a matinee performance on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
The cast will include Christine Andersen of Boothbay; Chris Essler of Waldoboro; Violet Ferlito of Waterville; Susan LaVerdiere of Newcastle; Lara Rakocevic of Brunswick; Emma Theobalds of Thomaston; and Susan Hodder of East Boothbay, Executive Director of The Waldo, who is also directing the play. The Vagina Monologues at The Waldo is being produced by George Bates of Waldoboro.
Considered a landmark play for raising awareness about women's bodies and issues related to female sexuality, The Obie Award-winning show is based on hundreds of interviews with a diverse range of women sharing personal stories. The play has been described as “outlandishly hilarious and devastatingly beautiful, tapping into the deep well of human emotions,” according to The Waldo, in a news release.
“We had a terrific turnout for auditions, and are already getting an enthusiastic response from people eager to come and see it," said Hodder. “Each actress portrays multiple women, each sharing stories based on the real experiences of women of all ages, races, religions, and economic status, but sharing the common human experience of being female. Eve Ensler’s ground- and taboo-breaking script has been revised since the play’s 20th anniversary, and we’re eager to present this timely and challenging material, in all its depth, to our community.”
Tickets for The Vagina Monologues at The Waldo go on sale February 12, 2025.
