Letter to the editor: Marsha Steinglass

Wait, Let Me Speak

Wed, 03/10/2021 - 9:15am
During the March 8 Rockport Select Board meeting, residents who had comments or questions were supposed to be given a chance to weigh in on an agenda item through the Town Manager.

I entered my question on Livestream regarding the discussion in progress, the discussion was cut short, and my question was never presented.  How odd.

The Chair of the Selectboard said, "They're going to load us up with letters now."

Here's one of the first.  Let's talk about numbers. On September 23, 2019, there were three voices of property owners expressing a negative response to STR restrictions, on July 9, 2020, there were 14, on November 9, 2020, there were 29, on January 25, 2021, there were 49; including a letter representing 41 property owners, on March 6, 2021 at 4 p.m., there was a letter submitted by 10 Rockport business owners who bravely spoke their truth.

Another board member stated: "We've heard from over 30 people" who want restrictions imposed. He also conceded that "we've had some other feedback."

Well, this is part of the "other feedback."

Why were the most recent letters from property owners and business owners excluded from the Board packet of the meeting of last night. You can watch that meeting on Livestream, starting at minute 30 into the meeting.

Why does the Town website have a non-functioning search engine.  Why is it so hard for the average user to access the history of this whole divisive  issue?
