Vote no on Question 1: Trust your town clerk
We do not need to enact numerous changes (and some not even listed on the ballot question) to Maine election laws. We already have election security through our local town or city clerks. She or he has the responsibility to process voter registration applications and verify eligibility. Trust your town clerk!
Also included in Question 1 is a change that prohibits requests for absentee ballots by phone or by family members as well as ends ongoing absentee voter status for seniors and people with disabilities.
My daughter who lives with us has low vision. We pick up a ballot to bring home to read to her. As she is unable to drive, either my husband or I return the ballot to the drop box at the Rockport town office. I can’t imagine what this process will be like if Question 1 passes, and even more importantly, how my daughter will feel about having her voting rights limited.
Vote No on 1… and trust your town clerk!
