UMaine Extension offers online series for youth on machine learning
University of Maine Cooperative Extension will twice offer a six-part online 4-H series on six Mondays from November 9 through December 14, 2026. The sessions are identical. One will be held from 4–5:15 p.m. and the other from 6–7:15 p.m. Sessions will be held via Zoom.
“Machine Learning: Intro to AI” is designed primarily for youth ages 9 to 12, though teens are welcome, according to the Extension, in a news release. Through hands-on activities, participants will explore how machine learning models make predictions, practice training AI models and build beginner computer science skills. No prior experience is required. Participants need access to a computer or tablet.
The series is free, and donations are welcome. Registration is required by November 1; space is limited to eight participants. A waitlist will be available if capacity is reached. An adult or teen volunteer who is comfortable with Zoom and has basic computer science skills is also sought to help lead the series. More information and registration is available atthe event webpage.
If reasonable accommodation is needed, please contact Sarah Sparks at 207.581.8206 or sarah.sparks@maine.edu by October 26.
