ROCKPORT — In a school-wide assembly on Wednesday, December 18, the student body of Camden Hills Regional High School honored two students who attained national recognition. Dr. Shawn Carlson said in an opening statement that, “a national spotlight shows how gifted you all are.”

Annabel Parker, a soprano, was selected to perform on a national radio show and Kristina Kelly, a member of the Camden Hills girls soccer team, has been selected the United Soccer Coaches "National Player of the Year" for 2019. She is believed to be the first high school athlete from Maine to win a national player of the year award in any sport.

Parker sang on “From the Top,” a program that showcases young classically trained musicians. A short piece of her performance was played for the student body.

“Annabel is a talented soprano and now many people from across the nation know that, too,” said Colson.

Girls soccer coach Meredith Messer was recently named regional coach of the year.

Messer said there are 15,313 high schools in the country.

“Conservatively,” she said, “there are 204,000 girls playing high school soccer. Each state selects their best and that pool gets narrowed down to 59. It’s amazing to get selected from those numbers as the best player in the nation.”

Kelly finished with 159 goals and 58 assists as the Windjammers went 70-1-1 winning four straight Class A State Championships. She plans to continue her career at Central Connecticut State University.
